In Rothenburg, Ziegel Bräu provides the local small-batch beer address. Landwehr-Bräu in Reichelshofen is a separate brewery destination with a documented history from 1755. Distelhäuser in Tauberbischofsheim lies farther down the valley in Baden-Württemberg. The cultural city, rural brewery and valley route are three different excursions, not one walking circuit.

Rothenburg has a regional rail connection requiring a change; from Nuremberg or Würzburg, the complete connection matters more than a generic journey time. A walk into the valley also needs a return to town or another station. The old centre itself is explored on foot.
