Five areas, five separate days
Franconian Switzerland’s caves, castles and brewery inns are spread across a limestone landscape. A cave ticket, castle access, walking route and restaurant booking are separate pieces of information. Choose one area and check each piece for the travel date.
Pottenstein: Teufelshöhle, castle and active breweries
Pottenstein’s main attractions are Teufelshöhle, the castle and the surrounding cliff landscape. The city’s current brewery list names Mager in the centre and Säger-Bräu in Weidenloh as active; Bruckmayers Urbräu is classified as a museum brewery. Hufeisen appears in older material but is absent from the municipality's current list of active breweries. Plan a stop there only after direct confirmation.
Use the cave or castle as the fixed part of the day and choose one beer stop after it. Confirm tour access and brewery-inn opening separately.
Ailsbach valley: Sophienhöhle and Burg Rabenstein
Sophienhöhle and Burg Rabenstein form a cave-and-castle day in the Ailsbach valley. Held-Bräu in Oberailsfeld is a separate brewery-inn option nearby. Walking distance, attraction access and the meal need to fit together; the brewery is not at the cave entrance.
Waischenfeld: castles and brewery villages
Waischenfeld, Burg Rabeneck, Nankendorf and Breitenlesau allow a day built around valley scenery and one village brewery inn. Schroll in Nankendorf and Krug-Bräu in Breitenlesau are different destinations. Pick one according to the route and its current opening rather than treating both as automatic stages.
Streitberg and Muggendorf: cave and valley
Binghöhle near Streitberg belongs to a quieter Wiesent-valley day. A guided cave visit and a walk around Streitberg or Muggendorf can fill the main part of the day. Beer may come from an inn in the valley or from Ebermannstadt afterwards; this area has a different rhythm from Hallerndorf’s cellar concentration.
Gößweinstein: basilica, castle and viewpoints
Gößweinstein is primarily a pilgrimage and walking destination. The basilica, castle and viewpoints belong in the plan before the beer address. Choose an inn in town, Sachsenmühle within the municipality or a separate nearby brewery excursion. Do not describe those places as breweries in the market centre.
