The season has no shared opening day
Franconian Kirchweih festivals are distributed from spring into autumn. Each municipality, parish or organising group sets its own date. Large city events publish early; a small village or district Kärwa may appear only a few weeks ahead on a municipal page, association channel or inn notice.
Month-by-month descriptions therefore explain the character of the season. They do not replace a calendar for a particular place or a confirmed programme for the current year.
Spring: first festivals and Bergkirchweih
A spring traveller can choose that large event or search a smaller area for local Kirchweih festivals. Weather and the public-holiday calendar affect both outdoor programmes and transport.
June to August: many local weekends
The number of local festivals increases in early summer and the holiday months. This does not mean that every village has a Kärwa on every weekend. District, neighbourhood and spelling matter: Kärwa, Kerwa, Kirwa and Kirchweih can lead to different local search results.
September and October: city and autumn Kirchweih
Smaller autumn dates must be confirmed with the relevant place. A recurring weekend found in an old calendar does not establish the event for the present year.

Confirming a local event
A dependable announcement names the place, year and dates and comes from the municipality, association, inn or organiser. Its programme then establishes whether a tree ceremony, church service, music, procession or food service is planned. None of those elements is automatic.
The last return matters for transport. Large city events publish special travel notices; a village Kärwa may have only limited buses. Anyone arriving by car should designate a completely alcohol-free driver in advance.
Choosing a period
May offers Bergkirchweih and early outdoor festivals. June to August brings the widest selection of local weekends and stronger accommodation demand. September and October combine autumn food with the later Kirchweih season but require more attention to weather and return travel. The suitable period follows the desired type of event, not a broad claim about “the” Kärwa season.
